You hear alot about them but just what are they. A ghost is really a low level energy that is stuck and usually stuck because of emotional ties. You know when someone dies, say the husband, and the wife is so grieved that it can keep a part of the soul attached to a room or place by the intensity of the grieving wife. The same can be said in the case of rage, if a murder has taken place in a room, often a part of the murdered person is left behind, usually because of rage, hate, anger. If you tune into them I can often feel emotion, it's the most tangible. Then comes the story of what happened to them.
Ghosts can behave in different ways depending on how mischievous they are, or restless. But the most common experience someone will have in regard to a ghost, is an uncomfortable feeling you get when in a room. Something feels wrong. Of course this could be bad earth lines, so not all bad places in the home can be blamed on a ghost. Feeling goosebumps can be an indication of a presence, however, people can have these feelings when there is a positive presence. Often you know when a presence is virtuous or pernicious.
Ghosts by the way usually don't rattle chains!
Entities are often found attached to the life force of humans. Though in many many cases the host will never know they have a foreign piece of debris attached to them. But a pernicious entity can create food cravings, addictions and emotional swings. However, before you blame the entity on all your troubles, be aware of the saying like attracts like. An entity will be attracted to a host it can feed on, meaning if it's life has been one of disappointment and sorrow and so is yours, you will make a good match. If you do not have these issues then you need not worry too much.
Entities are parts of a deceased's astral body (mind or emotional body) that did not dissolve after death. It remains earthbound and awaits a new nest. Hospitals are a nice playground for pesky entities, as are cemeteries and funeral homes.
They are not that easy to catch however, so don't be too alarmed. If you are in poor physical health, in a drunken state, or if you are emotionally down with poor physical health then you are a nice target.
Paradoxically it does not pay to wear black to funerals. Lighter colored clothes are much more appropriate. And the energy of children is very open, consequently it is for this reason more than any other that children should be discouraged from attending them.
Like ghosts, entities are bits of energy that are out of place. If you find one, find a reputable clearer to take care of them. Perhaps you'd also like to know why you attracted it in the first place! That's another topic.

In essence 'ghosts' or astral bits and pieces are of very very low intelligence. Don't expect a conversation to make sense!! LOL. You could put them in the pesky department creating havoc of an irritating nature. Mind you most people have no awareness of them so it shows how 'ineffective' they are.
Your question about the astral plane is another major subject. Layers and layers and layers, spaces upon spaces. So in our limited consciousess it is very fair to say it is unending. To absorb these layers, and honestly for a human in our current state to absorb the astral world, we have to get out of our exvoluted senses and use our inner world to fathom them. Moreso, it requires the use of different muscles, different subtle bodies to get an experiential understanding of them. It's a work in progress and can be a life after life after lifetime process.
Do we project the astral plane? That's not an easy question to answer. It ties in with our discussion on Consciousness, the Brain and thoughts above the head. At what point are we aware of our consciousness. If we take the standpoint of our mere mortal consciousness then we speculate this answer. When we start to experience higher states of consciousness and see there is more to see than what our senses show us, then that question becomes more extraordinary. How far can you take your consciousness?
Because we are so out of touch with those more involuted parts of ourselves this question remains difficult to answer. Perhaps if we could ask an angel for example what sense of astrality it has. I'm suggesting however, that it was when creation was manifest, yet still unfallen, this was the creation of the astral plane. I'd prefer to use the term Astral Worlds. If the planet was blown apart today our consciousness would still survive but in other states and spaces. This is still an astral world.

Your question re if we dissolve, where do you think it goes? The model that resonates for me and what I can see in my vision is that we have a spiritual evolution. As we experience, overcome, grow, even endure (yikes) we learn to transform our astral bodies. The astral body - the lower astral body is one of polarities. The negative and positive parts of our persona. One hopefully overcomes the negative, achieves through the positive, then comes to the balanced state. You will understand this as Ying and Yang, Black and White, Male and Female. It is the transformation of our soul/persona that gives a Transformed Astral Body. When living in the world from this state, we are talking dynamic, awakened people who make a difference in the world.
In short - higher astral worlds await.

Jewels you explained it in such a way that I think a lot of people will look at 'ghosts' in a very different way. I haven't experienced something like this before, but when we were looking for a house to buy, many of the ones that we looked at, we turned down because I just didn't like the 'atmosphere' in them. And I do believe when we feel a bit gloomy or negative we tend to attract negative forces.
Annalene you are adhering to your senses. This feeling of something not being right can be several things, among them entities/ghosts, bad earthlines and imprints left by previous owners or tenants. Not all is as it seems. Often people will think anything that feels bad in a house must be a ghost. This is not the case.
I had the good fortune of assisting a friend who was asked to clear a bad energy from a home. They had it on the market for a long time and it would not sell. The owner always could sense a presence in the house, of course she didn't talk to many people about it. My friend didn't tell me anything, instead wanted me to see for myself what I sensed and could see. I got goosebumps when my own vision tied in with hers. A woman had been beaten many times by her husband and there was an imprint left on the walls in the hallway near the bathroom. She eventually died in that house. An overwhelming sense of sadness could be felt. We did a joint clearing which was a beautiful experience. The house sold 3 weeks later.
Another clearing I did was of a little girl who died of flue in the early 1920's.
If you are living in a house with a mischievous energy, this could create aggitation. Some energies will feel very dark and heavy and this is what creates a gloomy negative feeling. You may be excused for thinking it is totally your predisposition to sad feelings, but it can be that there is a bad earthline you continually sit on or it's an entity drawing on your energy. It requires discernment to know what is what.

I had a creepy time in a flat in my early 20s, which was "haunted" I cleared it, eventually, but it was extremely draining. I ended up moving out a short time later, anyway. The guy who lived there before me said I was nuts and the place was fine. No it wasn't!
This was a very intriguing read, Jewels. There are a lot of unexplainable things in this world and by having more information on the possibilities, we move one step closer to solving them. Great detail and thanks for sharing your own personal experiences with this as well.

Nikade, thanks for your response. State of Mind is a broad term sometimes. You think you see a ghost, therefore there is one. Interestingly though, entities and presences are often felt as well. So the state of mind isn't always a good judge. The mind itself is very good at dismissing something it cannot understand. When the subject of ghosts are presented there is so much rubbish about the phenomena I have no arguement with intelligent people in dismissing their existence. Takes allot of discernment and perhaps doesn't pay to be too loud with opinions! LOL.

I liked your comment about kids not going to places like burial grounds. I remember when my Grandpa passed away my grandma was crying behind. Later I asked my father why you went and not grandma (He told me women and kids are not allowed). Could it be that the spirit of dead people would take advantage of women(emotionally vulnerable) and kids (innocent&open)?
Also coming to another question when a soul has unfinished desire it becomes a ghost then do animals have no unfinished desire or there are animal ghosts too?
And finally when encountering a ghost what should be done?
It is definitely an energetic reason. Children are more open and although it's not common in the west for women not to attend funerals I can see why in some traditions women's emotional openings would put them in a vulnerable position to attracting fragments from the astral body of the dead person. In the case of your grandparents, it is very likely that the grieving by your grandmother could keep your grandfather earthbound just by the pulling your grandmother was doing. Grieving is necessary, but what it can do is keep the soul close to the grieving person, instead they need to know they are dead and move on. The teachings and practices of Eastern spiritual traditions could see this, they knew it. It had nothing to do with whether the person was a woman or man. It was an understanding of the process. There is allot of context to the subject of souls and what happens after death. You may have heard of the shattering that occurs. There are phases one goes through on the big journey, part of that phase is the shattering of layers. My understanding is that it is not the soul itself that has 'unfinished' business, but parts of it, more lower levels that were not transformed during life. And so are kept earthbound. When death occurs it is consciousness that remains and that consciousness changes. The transformed parts stay intact and hopefully go higher. The more pernicious parts are what can stay in lower levels. These lower pieces of consciousness are what become ghosts and fragments and attach to a life forces. It is a matter of like attracts like though and so it is not a common thing that people easily catch an entity. If your health is not good, or you are very low emotionally these are times when you could be susceptible to catching a fragment. They need a host to feed off basically.
My father has just recently died and so I am 'following' him through phases of his journey. It is fascinating to see what is happening to him. He has 'appeared', meaning I have felt him several times. The 2nd time I was a bit unnerved. I have the training to help my father with his afterlife journey. This is an amazing opportunity for me to help him. I have been doing spiritual practices for many years now. There is a very helpful piece of writing called Death the Great Journey. It was compiled by Dr Samuel Sagan. It encompasses teachings from many traditions including Hindu and Buddhist. (It's available online too)
So you ask what to do when you encounter a ghost. There is a technique available that helps you to densify your energy. I'm not into putting white light around my body, I want a more tangible practical way. Interestingly your own body has a knowhow of what to do. If I were to give advice to anyone who was interested in 'ghosts' it would be to not interfer. Engaging presences that are of a low level is not in your best interests, and it is not in theirs either. Some people do it for fun and from what I see, they do not know what they are playing with! You'd be advised to be aware of the presence, acknowledge it, give it compassion, do not linger with that in anyway, and move away from it. You can do this energetically by pushing them away using your own life force and your consciousness.
Animals, in my vision, have different travelling vehicles than humans. Not easy to explain this one. I do not see animals souls floating around. I've heard that there is a 'group soul' and I quite like the 'logic' of it. Means there is a group soul for dogs, one for cats, horses etc. I know that sounds a vague explanation. I do know that animals can catch human fragments but not the other way around. Humans do not catch animal fragments, or I am yet to see or hear any experiences of this. There is a totally different level of consciousness between humans and animals, this must be kept in mind when talking about souls and consciousness.
Thanks for your questions countrywomen. My own father passed away recently and I am currently helping him with his afterlife journey. I actually feel honored to do it and it is helping me further with my vision.
Nice explanation about animal ghosts. Does your father's spirit just appear or there is some form of communication too. If there is then is the soul in some other astral world?
In India they say after death on the 13th day the spirit leaves earth and special mantra's /prayers are held for that. Also pray for the soul to rest.
This was a fun hub and an interesting topic to think about. I have never seen a ghost, but think I have at time felt them, or felt something, anyway. My brother claims that my mother appeared to him just after her death. I cannot accept what he says as true because it doesn't make since to me her not having come to me as well. I could come up with a logical reason to explain why not, but the bottom line is I don't believe it happened for reason that to me are very definitive. Anyway, I await my experience with open mind and anticipation.

I don't think there is a strict code of conduct for individuals going through their after life wanderings. So it being the 13th day that they 'ascend' is not a hard a fast date with destiny. For some it is after 4 days, some 10 days, some longer.
I didn't have dialogue with my father, I just 'knew' not to. This is not because I was told not to, it was a decision I made based on a strong feeling. During the afterlife wandering, particularly close to the time of death, the dead person often doesn't realise they are dead. They are walking around as if in a physical body which no longer exists. Their consciousness is what remains. This is an astral world in itself. My definition of astral worlds is consciousness = thoughts and emotions. And there are a myriad of levels and spaces to astral worlds. At the time of death and particularly for the forthcoming 4 days at least, the soul of the deceased is close to the physical plain. Depending on the will of the deceased and their pull to stay earthbound it could take weeks before they move away.

thanks for your input. When dealing with vision in non-physical realms seeing is not with the physical eyes. Though some people do get the impression of seeing as if with the eyes. Others get smells - interestingly the first time I knew my father was around was because I could smell him. That was a first for me. Feeling is my main mode of vision which turns into a form of physical vision. So I would bet a pay packet that your mother did come to you and you felt 'something.' Very likely it was her presence. So your brother didn't get it all, she shared herself around. That's a normal thing to do. The departed stay close to loved ones because it's the most familiar thing for them to do.
'It doesn't make sense to you' - that's the job of the ordinary mind to make sure everything makes sense. These experiences are not provable, not measurable with physical instruments. And I am putting myself out there to have my head chopped off because the majority of people in the world don't see anymore.
Not a great deal makes sense when the standpoint is the physical world seen through a dense physical body. A question to ask yourself is what is it you are feeling when you do feel something.
For what it's worth, I didn't have a good relationship with my father, and so was surprised at my experiences after his death. It was not what I expected.
A friend of mine lost her father a couple of weeks back. I was telling my husband about her news when the room became full of a strong aroma of licorice, which only I seemed able to smell. When I saw my friend a few days later I mentioned the licorice experience, and she told me that her Dad had been a big fan of licorice allsorts, and she often used to buy him a packet. I'm wondering if the old fellow was floating by when we were discussing him, and wanted to let us know.
I once had a friend who lost his father. And their dog started barking all of a sudden for the first 2/3 days after his father was cremated. Even my friend felt some energy which he couldn't explain. But anyway my question is do the animals like dogs have a special sense or their noses are stronger to pick up scents?

That is exactly what can happen. You talk about the departed and because there is familiarity they can be attracted to you. I've known people who could 'smell' non-phyiscal smells, that is what it is strangely. There is no licorice around, yet you can smell it - isn't that fascinating? I'm so pleased I had that experience because I heard people say that was their strong sense of vision. Now I've had it too, hahah, I can chalk it on the wall so to speak!

Animals are highly sensitive and they do see them, no doubt about it. I don't think it's just smell, feeling, seeing. I was told a story when I was touring around Europe. I visited Poland and a few concentration camps. The keepers say that animals hate them, they whine like they are crying and bark and carry on. It is not hard to tune in and feel both presences and imprints of the past in these places.
Animals become attached to their owners and are very much effected when their owners die. I wonder though, from the dog's perspective, if they are seeing their owner in distress, because there can be a denial of being dead. Then is it that they know their owner is leaving. It's fascinating. Not that I want to get into the mind of an animal, but you can feel what is happening.
When you say the dog can sense when it's owner is in distress then do you mean they can feel the energy/aura of it's master? This is a totally new dimension. Great explanation.
You hear alot of stories where living friends of the department note the effects death has on an animal, particularly dogs who have been close to the owner/master. Cat's don't react in the same way (like Garfield, they usually are very selfish and don't show affection in the same way a dog does). Often dogs will be heard crying, or they will not leave the strongest imprint where their master usually sat or lay. For a good few days after death it's likely the master is still close to that place because their consciousness is still earthbound and reacting according to habit. This is not a new concept, though perhaps it's not spoken about.
Of course ghosts are real, as are spirits sent from the the other side to communicate with us. I have read and seen too much to think it's "all in my mind." And I don't give a flip if people think I'm nuts, I am not but I don't care what others think; we all have our own belief system and mine goes back thousands of years.
Years ago, when I started researching reincarnation, a very good friend who was way ahead of me in her own spirtual thinking, said to me, "just be careful who you share your beliefs with." I apreciate her protective nature and love her as my good friend, but it's really OK to believe as you will and know that our little brains can only handle so much info. There is much more out there than we could ever imagine.

Cool Hub! My friiend Curt was restoring an old Mansion in N.Y. City. He peeked through the stairway and saw a paper doll. He reached in and felt it, grabbed it but kept pulling out an empty hand. Curt got mad and ripped the stairs out. When he got the paper doll, he turned and an old woman ghost was right in his face. Curt (you would have to know this guy) shouted at the ghost,"This is mine Bitch!" She faded and he never saw her again.
Wow, your friend Curl must have occult powers to have done that. She's either gone or hiding until he goes. LOL I'm sure he'd be a force to be aware of.
LOL...Yeah...Curt is like John the Baptist on steroids. He simply has no fear. The poor ghost didn't have a chance! :)
My friend Curt would have run. That's funny. Now, I have learned many things in my life and now wonder if these ghosts are not from a parallel universe. We seem to always be bumping into them so they say. I have my own experiences with them, but I am not afraid of them in any way. thanks Jewels.
Hey ralwus. it's certainly not difficult to sense them and whilst they may give you chivers, they really are not worth getting scared over. Fear of the unknown perhaps, but they are generally like flies around food.
I don't even bother with them any more, and yes, like flies I shoo them away or just ignore them.
In need I can clear them which is an amazing process in itself. I get great stories of their lives. But unless I'm asked to clear them I don't worry about them.
I know you can. So can I when needed, but I don't delve into who they are or were. Interesting topic for sure and there are the naysayers too to contend with.

I was really interested because about 8 months ago I went through a real nasty breakup with my girlfriend of a couple years, and since then, I've often dwelled on that fort long periods of time, often felt depressed, and in general, just had a lot of negative energy, almost all the time. Whilst reading your hub, I realized I'm an ideal target for such ghosts and entities, however I don't recall "feeling" any type of presence at all ever around me. I'm thinking if such ghosts and entities are attracted to people such as myself, why have I not experienced an encounter with one yet? Really, I'm anticipating some sort of encounter like that to happen to me. It intrigues me almost more than anything else. I'm also wondering if maybe I actually have encountered one, but I'm just not spiritually aware of them?
What originally got me researching this is a conversation I had with a friend of mine last night. He said to me that he discovered that "when you have enough hatred built up in you, it can create its own entity." However, after reading this, I think he just attracted an entirely seperate entity, because from what I've read on here, it looks like "creating" an entity out of pure hatred isn't really possible. Or is it?
But he talked of experiences where whenever he neared the closet in his room, he could feel an extremely dark and heavy presence lingering around the area. He also said that his mom felt the same thing when she was around that area.

Hi Sam, thanks for dropping in. First re the breakup and subsequent depression - it's not that easy to 'catch' an entity. Entities want a host and they are attracted to something that's familiar or that resonates. It's more common that you'd catch one from a family member than a girlfriend. And an entity is a fragment from a dead person. So it's not as simple as being down emotionally; there are to take into account, a weak life force, ie you are physically ill and low immune system for instance, you don't have the strength to defend.
I've never heard of 'creating' an entity as per your friend's comment. Again, fragments are from dead people. If a person was to accumulate or not assimilate experiences that involved hate, anger, grief and sadness it's likely that at death these unresolved issues will keep the soul more earthbound.
What your friend and his mother are feeling is a common experience if there is an entity on the premises. Though it's not always that clear and requires a bit of vision. If there is a crossing of earth lines (refer to the Hartmann Grid) in that spot you could feel similar energies to an entity. From what he's describing though it smells of an entity. Would be worth a bit of delving to see if anyone died in that house or if there was any violence.

I found the term Entities used for that type of…. Entity (for lack of a better description) a good one. This is also why many cultures cover mirrors in the house after a death in the family.

i dont know where to turn for answers, but this site makes me wonder about entities and ghosts. i had a talk with a friend a couple of months ago and we were talking of esp.
i used to get premonitions of things to come when i was younger. but to get to the point of this letter since i have talked of this, another matter it seems that i had opened up a porthole or something that maybe someone out there can help me with. just days after our conversation i would feel hot and sometimes cool breezes of air across my neck, a brush of someone getting to close to me, a tug on my shirt when no one was around and to close out this note there would be someone touching me (it happened twice). to
me it didnt bother me too much, just a bit un-nerving. it came to a close when i yelled out one morning while at work that they just leave me be and it just stopped. thank goodness no one was there with me at work when i yelled out.

I agree it can be a bit unnerving to have these strange experiences. I'd do exactly what you did, strengthen yourself energetically and 'fling it away assertively.' I would not encourage anyone to engage 'it/them' although it's great to get a vision on them. You can do that without actively engaging it, as you have done. Maybe you had some form of awakening to all of a sudden be able to sense it? Just a thought.

im back with some another encounter. things were quiet for awhile but now i can see them lurking off to the sides of my vision. i see them most of the time at work earlier in the a.m. though they do not reach out to me they are there. one morning i saw one as clear as day run past me though an office window separating the front and rear offices of my employment.
kind of took me by surprise. though there was one other time my wife and i stayed up late one weekend and she went to her computer and i went to bed. as i was laying in bed i felt someone that i thought was my wife crawling around side of me and then over me to the other side. i laughed and asked what she was doing? once i opened up my eyes and found she was not there it kind of shocked me because of all the movement of the bed. my hair stood on end. it reminded me very much of the movie the entity. im sure you know of that movie. well thats all i have to add to my previous post. have a good one and enjoy all those spirits out there.
Hi Dan, not sure I'd be enjoying your experiences very much particularly in your bedroom. Would be interesting to find out the history of your home and why they are there. Then if you intended to stay in this home I'd get them/it cleared. As I mentioned after your last comment, it's for energetic reasons. Your vision is great but make sure you look after yourself.

i just have one thing to add. We evolve spiritually depending on the choices we make and the level of evolvement determines whether we will dissolve in the ultimate or take rebirth.
whereas our past karma determines what we are in this life the karma that we do via the choices that we exercise in this one determines how much we will evolve and therefore it is in our hands to do the right karma so that we evolve away from the cycle of rebirth.
The non fully evolved souls are the ghosts and some of the just about to dissolve souls are also the guardian angels who are way above us in the cycle of liberation.

Karma is such a mind-field and of course goes way beyond the rationale of good deeds and bad deeds, eg a martyr who undertakes good deeds for the sake of attention and pulling on an emotional state can be determined as bad karma, yet the person undertaking the deed believes it is good.
What you explain above goes along with a Transformed Astral Body which are among esoteric teachings from several sources.

what has always confused me about the astral plane.. is that it is absolute and undending.. like there is no before or after. is this fair to say?
