My passion began with this subject in 1997. Way before this I did have an interest in horoscopes and read the magazines and newspapers like a little puppy wanting those snippets of hope that the horoscopes tend to give the general public.
I am born in early June, a Gemini according to the horoscope people who use the Tropical system of astrology. Now under this system and in accordance with the horoscope meme, I wanted to know everything I could get my hands and eyes on in regard to Gemini. Cause it would help me, wouldn't it? Try as I did, there was just something wrong with me fitting into the mold. I was disgruntled, disappointed that those fun loving, witty, versatile, flexible Gemini traits just didn't quite fit ME.
In 1997 I went to an Astrologer who upset my apple cart, tipped the apples onto the ground, well that's what happened to my mouth when he told me I was not a Gemini, but a Taurus! Once I really got into astrology I started to understand just what it is all about. The zodiac is only a very small part of a huge picture.
So why am I Taurus and not Gemini? There is a 23 degree difference between the Tropical system of astrology and the Sidereal system. Sidereal astrology is factual in that, the actual position of the planets at the time of your birth is in fact 23 degrees in the previous zodiac sign to that of Tropical. This is factual - true - unmistakable - no lies and undisputable. You look in the sky and hey presto - on the date and time of my birth the Sun was in Taurus and not in Gemini as Tropical so incorrectly says.
So once I got over the shock of not being who I thought I was, I put my mind into understanding just what my astrologer friend was revealing to me. My whole astrological blueprint in the form of planetary aspects showed me so much more to this art than the shallow information I had previously believed.
And so why did I resonate so much with Gemini? Well, that's because I have Mercury in Gemini, also in the 3rd house which is where Mercury likes to be. Mercury is strong in my chart, hence I could relate to the quick witted aspects, the communicator in me. But having the Sun in Taurus, I could then rest in knowing that my wanting of security and home being so strong was not out of character, but in character with having my Sun placed in such an earthy sign.
Aspects in your chart are THE most important part of your Astrology chart. An aspect is the distance one planet is to another planet, ie Mars Sextile (or 60 degrees) to the Sun gives a persona of Will, leadership, achievement. Uranus Trine Mars (120 degrees) makes for a rebellious independant type, quick to act, but impatient to some. Venus conjunct Moon (within 5 degrees of each other) gives a person of softness, lover of fine things, sensuality and receptivity. Pluto square Mars (90 degrees) shows the traits of a rock solid individual, unwavering, perhaps resistant, strong libido.
A person has many aspects in their chart which makes up a kaleidoscope of personality traits. Not all these traits come out in an individual in a lifetime, but they are nonetheless there and available to be used for the length of your human journey.
Now when you read those horoscopes, what they relate to is a generalisation of what it is to have the Sun in a particular sign. Now the Sun in your chart may not be very strong. The Sun is a planet of great magnitude, means that part of you that shines, has confidence and can do. If you have not brought out the sun inside yourself then you just may not be doing much shining at all, hence those predictions are not going to mean squat! And the fact that most of you are not in fact the sun sign you think you are adds to the sad and sorry reading you are glueing your eyes to.
To understand astrology in it's cleanest form, you need to understand what Planetary Forces are, ie what is the Saturn influence in your chart, what is the Jupiter force in your chart, Venus, Moon etc. And that's another entry in itself.
So if you hear a conversation, or read a forum that starts off with "I'm a Libran, should I go out with a Scorpio," don't buy into it, you are wasting your time and being conned out of your little mind.

so born on jan. 18th 1986 at 4:16am in the morning is it fair to say i'm a capricorn?
haha can i ask you about the girl i love too?
I don't believe in astrology for the fundamental reason it's too unscientific for me :). At 12 years old my mother did order my horoscope which predicted I would die mysteriously at 20 years old in the river of Paris, obviously I'm still alive 20 years later !
Now for the believers, don't you question yourself about so-called Barnum effect ?http://hubpages.com/hub/Barnum_effect
Nevertheless I must confess that I found one stuff that seems to be really precise it is Decoz numerological software (it's freeware you can try it). But coincidences exist also don't they ;)
cool, i was born in london ontario, canada. If you have time i'd love to hear about this girl i've recently met too.. she is november 2nd 1984 born in tillsonberg ontario. I essentially broke up with my girlfriend because i met this girl. Not that i was cheating but i realized that everything or most of what i was looking for in a person was possible. So i'm interested to know if, on paper, well your paper. It makes sense. Heart says yes.
anyways thanks jewels. another great hub.
ps. i'm 4:16am and she's 10am
wow i thought it was only me when i found that i didnt quite fit my horoscope! hmmm am i really am a libra, if i was born Oct,3,1993? (7:25am) (if you have the time to check it out)
great hub. Do you know that Indian astrology is based on moon while calculating the birth sign?As per western astrology the position of sun at the time of birth decides your birth sign.
Sidereal placements are so much more accurate
Great Hub, Jewels
They say that the dog that is part wolf guards the sheep better. I am rapidly finding the same with astrologers - the true professionals hate the charlatans more than anybody. Good luck with it!
Not sure if I want to know the truth - my entire love life and friendmaking has always been based upon my dreamy and impractical Piscean nature!
Just read the horoscope for fun don't take it serious.

I love to read Chinese fortune cookie, they are funny & interesting then the horror scopes.
Jewels, this is a very insightful look into how you discovered Sidereal which is quite a fascinating method. This looks like it would be a great side job for you since you're obviously very skilled in this area.
You're right, newspaper horoscopes are chit. ;)
Jeweles, now I see. Ok your an almost expert or are one at this. Am I wrong? My birthplace aand such I can give you on VFT if you will. Not if you are too busy and just don't do it anymore. But I like what you are saaying. thanks dear. CC
Hey Jewels, This is a great Article. I am fascinated with everything you said. I have studied numerology for awhile, and would definitely be interested in having you do an interpretation for me sometime. Where do I find more information about your professional and paid interpretations? Thanks for all the great information.
Nice hub. Liked the summary especially. It's something that has to be repeated to people who are not aware of how rich the subject of astrology is.
Glad to find your comment as I feel like writing about astrology based on what I've learned over the past 2 weeks formally. :)
So if you hear a conversation, or read a forum that starts off with "I'm a Libran, should I go out with a Scorpio," don't buy into it. Easy on the Scorps Jewels! Now if it were the other way round... lol.
Good Hub, Thank you.. from a true Scorp.
I've long been a fan of astrology - such a complex science that we have only touched on. Some years ago I found I could guess someone's sign if I spent time with them and have since sold many articles. I'm also a great lover of lunar astrology/numerology/physics etc.
I'm glad to see a rekindling of this interest - we could learn so much. I'll follow you and keep up.
Believe it or not, my mother can’t remember if I was born on June 1-st or June 3-rd, so I could never have a proper chart made. I would have loved to know, but I suppose it is going to be forever a mystery. Still happy to be a Gemini though
Wow Jewels, this is so interesting!Me, myself, find some aspects of what I believe to be my sign (Leo) not exactly fitting my personality, like the sense of selfishness and hautyness...July 28, 1983 Italy 9.15 AM ;)
Wow!it's like finding out that Santa doesn't exist!lol! So, I'm a...Cancer??That would make sense from the point of view of my sensibility and the fact that I am SO in touch with my feelings and that I have special respect for people's feelings as well...Wow, so interesting. Unfortunately, I am not a "specialist" (lol) so I didn't understand the meaning of trine Uranus and trine Jupiter, but I am certainly going to google that!THANK YOU!!
I have researched the aspects you mentioned Jewel, and I have goose bumps right now. It SO makes sense, lol!
Great article - thanks.
I'm a Cancer, but I've often wonder? I'm moody, but also very free spirited - love to travel and go about...like cars and so on. I've often thought I have influences from Gemini, Taurus, Libra or Scorpio, but I've never looked into it.
Take care,
John

I just love your explanation, and although I thought I knew a lot on this subject you showed me that there is much more to astrology than just the 'computerized' versions in newspapers and magazines, which is really giving True astrology a bad reputation.
